R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Scott Ferguson is bringing to a close a long and distinguished career in education, having positively affected the lives of countless young people for nearly half a century; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson came to the Region VIII Education Service Center in Mount Pleasant after working for public schools in Kansas and Texas; he had served ably in the positions of teacher, coach, principal, director of elementary curriculum, director of federal programs, and assistant to the superintendent before taking the post of superintendent for the Honey Grove Independent School District and then the Sulphur Springs Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Executive director of the education service center since 1979, Mr. Ferguson has brought a wealth of experience and learning to his role; he holds a bachelor's degree from Southeastern State Teachers College in Durant, Oklahoma, and a master's degree from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, as well as the Texas Permanent Professional Administrators Certificate; and WHEREAS, This dedicated educator has participated in a wide range of professional organizations on the local, state, and national levels; throughout his career, Mr. Ferguson also deservedly received a number of academic honors and prestigious appointments; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson has exemplified the highest standards of teaching and education administration, and at the conclusion of his outstanding career, he may reflect on the positive and immeasurable influence he has had on two generations of young people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Scott Ferguson on the occasion of his retirement from the Region VIII Education Service Center and commend him for his notable contributions to education in the Lone Star State; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ferguson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
