R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Dr. Tony Marquez of El Paso has been honored with a 
2002 Healthcare Provider of the Year award by the Vista Hills 
Optimist Club; and
	WHEREAS, Born and raised in El Paso, Dr. Marquez was selected 
for this prestigious award in appreciation for the dental services 
he has provided to the youth of the David L. Carrasco Job Corps 
Center and the pro bono care he has contributed for 15 years to 
those involved in the Boys and Girls Club of El Paso; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to his efforts to address the health 
needs of local youth, Dr. Marquez has given generously of his time 
and energies to secure educational opportunities for members of his 
community; for 14 years he has been instrumental in assisting some 
of the area's most outstanding high school students to attend the 
Massachusetts Institute of Technology; respected for his astute 
leadership ability, Dr. Marquez also serves as chairman of the 
board of trustees for El Paso Community College; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout his career Dr. Marquez has continued to 
pursue his own educational goals, earning a doctorate in materials 
science and engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso for 
his work on the development of a new dental alloy; and
	WHEREAS, In recognition of his myriad contributions to the 
community, he has been nominated by the El Paso District Dental 
Society to receive the Texas Dentist of the Year Award; and
	WHEREAS, Through his ongoing support of numerous worthwhile 
causes and endeavors, Dr. Tony Marquez has demonstrated a deep 
commitment to his fellow Texans, and his steadfast service is a 
source of inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Tony Marquez on receiving a 
2002 Healthcare Provider of the Year award from the Vista Hills 
Optimist Club and extend to him warmest wishes for continued 
success and happiness; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Dr. Marquez as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
