R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Edward Lester of Dallas on
October 8, 2002, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of
this beloved gentleman; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on April 24, 1938, in
Scottsville, to Ezra and Vida Whiten Lester; he graduated from
George Washington Carver High School in Karnack, attended Wiley
College in Marshall, and served his country with distinction as a
member of the armed forces; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lester and his wife, Joyce, enjoyed a warm and
fulfilling marriage that was based on a solid foundation of mutual
love, trust, and respect; a devoted family man, Mr. Lester took
great pride in his two daughters and seven grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Baptized at James Chapel Baptist Church in Marshall,
he was a faithful congregant of Good Street Baptist Church and
joyfully participated with the deacon board, male chorus, Ollie Lee
Scruggs Sanctuary Choir, Sunday school department, and brotherhood
department; and
WHEREAS, Though Charles Edward Lester is profoundly missed,
the memory of his devotion and service to others will surely live on
in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles Edward Lester
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife, Joyce M. Lester; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Cornelia
and Dennis Law and Lolita and Benji Newman; to his grandchildren,
Cornell King, Weldon Wright, Melcena Wright, Elizabeth Law,
Harrison Law, Shannon Lofton, and Kimyatta Brent; to his brother,
William Howard Lester; to his sisters, Tommie D. Singleton, Doris
M. Herod, Lois M. Tatum, Essie O. Johnson, Frankie J. Lester,
Dorothy L. Evans, and Essie B. Taylor; and to his many other
relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
Edward Lester.
