R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, It is indeed a privilege to honor the Reverend C. J. R. Phillips, Jr., and his wife, Mrs. Esther Calhoun Phillips, of DeSoto for their 25 years of committed work at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas; and WHEREAS, A Bishop College gospel preacher, Reverend Phillips has served with distinction as pastor of St. Phillips, leading the church through a total renovation and achieving full accreditation for the childcare center; Reverend Phillips has also established numerous ministries to meet the needs of the less fortunate in the community; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has extended his hand to other worthy groups as well; a member of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Dallas, Reverend Phillips has given his time as president of the Sunday School Congress of Unity District Association, as area and state advisor for junior women with the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, and as board member for the National Baptist Convention of America; he belongs to the Dallas Chapter of the NAACP and has served as vice president of the Minister's Conference of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America; and WHEREAS, His many accolades include an honorary doctorate from New Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Institute in Dallas as well as commendations from the City of Dallas and the U.S. Senate; moreover, he has received the Ambassador for Peace Award from the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace; and WHEREAS, Undoubtedly, Reverend Phillips derives great inspiration and support from having his distinguished wife serving at his side; with the utmost dedication and resolve, Mrs. Phillips comforts the distressed, aids the needy, and willingly makes any sacrifice for her congregation at St. Phillips and the greater community; and WHEREAS, These two admirable Texans have spent untold hours answering the spiritual needs of congregants and performing countless good works during their 25 years of sterling service, and it is indeed a great honor to recognize them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend C. J. R. Phillips, Jr., and Mrs. Esther Calhoun Phillips on the occasion of their quarter-century anniversary at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church and extend to them deepest appreciation for their many deeds in behalf of the church and community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Phillips as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
