R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Gladys Carroll Knight of Dumas marked a special
milestone in her life when she celebrated her 100th birthday on
February 2, 2003; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Order of the Eastern Star,
Mrs. Knight attended a birthday party held for her at the Masonic
Lodge in New Braunfels; and
WHEREAS, During the 1930s and 1940s, Mrs. Knight lived in New
Braunfels, where her late husband, Roy "Doc" Carroll, taught
business at New Braunfels High School; she worked in a doctor's
office and belonged to book clubs and art clubs in the area; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight is a talented portrait artist and
lifelong bridge player; today, she enjoys traveling and spending
time with her second husband, whom she married more than a decade
ago; and
WHEREAS, A kind friend to many and inspiration to all who know
her, Mrs. Knight has enriched the lives of countless individuals,
and it is a pleasure to recognize this esteemed lady in her 100th
year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Gladys Carroll Knight on the momentous
occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Knight as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
