R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than half a century Henry L. Dugat, Sr., has
served his faith as a minister of music, and he is most deserving of
special recognition; and
WHEREAS, A native of Dayton, Texas, Mr. Dugat graduated from
Liberty Training School in 1958 and went on to attend Texas Southern
University; he married Bennie L. Dugat, and their union has been
blessed with five children, Cynthia, Henry, Daphne, Alonzo, and
Chris; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished artist has inspired worshippers
in congregations around Texas with his music, including churches in
Dayton, Liberty, Port Arthur, Galveston, Houston, and Raywood; and
WHEREAS, Also an active community leader, Mr. Dugat is
founder of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Galveston and has served as
project director of Prairie View A&M University at Liberty and
Lamar University at Liberty and as administrative director for
Wells Mortuary in Liberty; and
WHEREAS, He has given generously of his time and talents in
support of such noteworthy organizations as the Liberty County
Historical Commission, the Shiloh District Association of Texas,
and the Lone Star District Association of Texas; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman's extensive community
involvement was acknowledged on January 5, 2003, when that day was
recognized as Henry L. Dugat, Sr., Day in Liberty County, and it is
a pleasure to join in honoring him at this time; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Henry L. Dugat, Sr., for his outstanding
career in music ministry and notable contributions to his community
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all
of his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Dugat as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
