R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Bandera High School football team has reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2002 UIL Class 3A, Division II, state title, the school's first-ever championship in any sport, and this historic achievement merits commendation; and WHEREAS, Truly a team of destiny, the Bulldogs faced must-win situations in their final two district games and earned victories in both to qualify for postseason action; Bandera High School's relentless march through the playoffs was a difficult one as they faced district champions in every contest and were consistently considered to be the underdog; and WHEREAS, The championship game pitting the Bulldogs against Midland Greenwood High School was one of the most exciting in the annals of Texas high school football; with the score tied at the end of regulation, the Bandera team refused to be denied, winning the thrilling double-overtime contest 27-24 to claim the coveted crown and complete the 2002 campaign with a record of 13-3; and WHEREAS, Winning the state title was a result of total dedication to the team concept by players Brett Hicks, Cody Fields, Robert Ickes, Ryan Tierney, Scott Jennings, Chad Thompson, Jessie Sierra, Gary Barton, Rusty Bookout, Brad Daigneault, Arron Ellinger, Chris Martinez, Dustin Heep, Taylor Koerth, Jeff Wilkerson, Matt Postert, Adam Alanis, Syngyn Dodd, Hunter Salyers, Warren Parker, Ryan Groomer, Trey Nugent, Bryan Jacobs, Josh Faglie, John Paul Lico, Kasey Young, Colton Sells, Dustin Reed, Keith Winter, Thomas Burke, Garrison Smith, D. J. Reed, A. J. Caza, and Johnny Meaney; and WHEREAS, Head coach and athletic director Mike Williamson provided his young charges with exemplary leadership and inspiration, and he was ably supported in his efforts by assistant coaches Steve Kidd, Stan Payne, Bob Shearhart, Russell Joy, Brett Morris, Ray Young, John Milner, Eliseo Aguero, and Steve Hoffman; and WHEREAS, These outstanding young student-athletes, along with their coaches and staff, are a source of great pride to all those associated with Bandera High School, and it is indeed appropriate that they receive special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the players and coaches of the Bandera High School Bulldog football team on winning the 2002 UIL Class 3A, Division II, state championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display at Bandera High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
