H.R. No. 234
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Small businesses constitute a vital and dynamic
force in the economy of this state, and the arrival of La Abuela
Mexican Food in Weslaco is indeed a welcome indicator of the
blossoming economic future of this well-situated mid-Valley
community; and
WHEREAS, La Abuela Mexican Food was started in 1993 in the
McAllen home of its founder and president, Cristina Wells; as her
business grew, Ms. Wells realized it was time to move out of the
kitchen and into a facility equipped to handle mass production; and
WHEREAS, For the last decade the small company has operated
out of a McAllen location, but a growing demand for its homestyle
tortillas led Ms. Wells to find a new site for her business; the
facilities in Weslaco will allow the company to double its
employment and production in keeping with its plans to expand its
distribution to 80 additional stores in Texas before spreading into
several other states; and
WHEREAS, The initiative and drive of small business owners
fuel progress and development in Texas, and the citizens of Weslaco
are pleased that such a promising enterprise has chosen to call
their community its home; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby welcome La Abuela Mexican Food to Weslaco and
extend best wishes to Cristina Wells and her employees for great
success in the company's new location; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for La Abuela Mexican Food as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
