H.R. No. 238



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, On March 6, 2003, John S. Etchieson of Austin will 
retire from his position as president and CEO of the Better Business 
Bureau (BBB) in Central Texas, having served the BBB system with 
integrity and distinction for 33 years; and
	WHEREAS, This University of Texas alumnus began his career 
with the Austin BBB organization in 1970, while still a student, and 
within two years had earned a management training scholarship and 
had been named business relations director;  over the course of the 
next decade, Mr. Etchieson held key positions at BBB offices in 
Houston, San Antonio, and Austin, and in 1980 he was named to his 
current position as president and CEO of the Central Texas chapter; 
and
	WHEREAS, Under his able stewardship, the Better Business 
Bureau has provided area residents with information needed to 
become better-informed consumers and has offered business owners 
and operators guidance for improving their companies' practices; 
Mr. Etchieson has achieved noteworthy success with the BBB's 
alternative dispute resolution programs, its advertising review, 
and its work to evaluate and report on the solicitation and funds 
distributions of charities; and
	WHEREAS, This exemplary Texan has devoted more than three 
decades of his professional life toward making the Lone Star State a 
better place in which to do business, and his legacy of fairness and 
professionalism will continue to benefit Capital Area businesses 
and consumers for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby commend John S. Etchieson for his outstanding 
tenure as president and CEO of the Central Texas Better Business 
Bureau and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued 
happiness and success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Etchieson as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
