R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Denton Community Hospital has been awarded
distinguished certification by the Texas Department of Health in
recognition of the facility's newborn hearing screening program;
and
WHEREAS, Developed in response to the 76th Legislature's
House Bill 714, which mandated universal testing of newborns for
hearing abnormalities, the hospital's newborn hearing screening
program helps to identify hearing loss conditions early in
children's lives, thereby preventing lifelong speech, language,
and cognitive development impediments; and
WHEREAS, To be considered for distinguished certification,
hospitals must meet specific standards: all parents of newborns
must be offered a newborn hearing screen during the birth admission
and given the results of the screen, 98 percent of newborns must be
screened during birth admission, 95 percent of newborns must pass
the screening, and all abnormal screening results must be reported
to the newborn's attending physician or health care provider and to
the Texas Department of Health; and
WHEREAS, The implementation of newborn hearing screening
programs has had positive results throughout the State of Texas and
has benefited children and parents alike through the early
detection of hearing problems in infants; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the doctors, nurses, administrators, and
other personnel at Denton Community Hospital be commended for
exceeding the standards established by the Texas Department of
Health and that they be congratulated on being awarded
distinguished certification; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Denton Community Hospital as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
