R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Patricia "Pat" McKee of Waco has dedicated much of her personal and professional life to enhancing the lives of others through her association with Camp Fire USA, and she truly merits special recognition; and WHEREAS, Mrs. McKee retired as executive director of the Tejas Council of Camp Fire USA in 2002 after 32 outstanding and productive years in the position; and WHEREAS, Through her vision and leadership, this dynamic woman collaborated with dozens of local agencies to produce initiatives benefiting her community, including an after-school program that today operates on seven campuses of the Waco Independent School District and seminars and courses at a number of Waco's public housing developments; she also oversaw the Camp Fire Activity Center, which has been a safe after-school haven for students since its opening in 1977; and WHEREAS, Mrs. McKee has been the recipient of several national awards from Camp Fire USA for outstanding initiatives such as Campus Camp, Teen Volunteers Center, life-enrichment programs, Kids Care, and Teen Leadership Waco; she was also honored with a Yellow Rose of Texas Award presented by Governor Ann Richards, a Pathfinders Award from YWCA, and a Community Builder Award given by the Masonic Grand Lodge; and WHEREAS, Now that she is retired, she has more time to spend with her family and many friends and to travel with her husband, Goodson, but her commitment to Camp Fire USA continues to benefit the children of the Tejas Council through the generous creation of the Pat and Goodson McKee Endowment Fund; and WHEREAS, Since beginning as a volunteer when her daughter was a Bluebird participant in 1958, Pat McKee has given unstintingly of her time, talents, and energies in behalf of Camp Fire USA and the people of Texas, and it is most appropriate that she be honored for her immeasurable contributions to the families of Waco and the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Patricia McKee for her exemplary dedication to the young people of Texas through Camp Fire USA and extend to her sincere best wishes for happiness in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. McKee as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
