R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at the tragic and untimely loss of Janice Roberson, a beloved Waco educator and community leader who died February 14, 2003, at the age of 61; and WHEREAS, Born January 27, 1942, in Winslow, Arizona, Mrs. Roberson attended public school in Lake Arthur, New Mexico, where she completed high school as valedictorian in 1960; she went on to graduate from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Lubbock, earn a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas, and receive a graduate degree in education from Texas Woman's University; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roberson worked as a psychiatric nurse and then taught vocational nursing in Lubbock before moving with her family to Waco in 1969; she was associated with McLennan Community College (MCC) for 31 years, beginning as a registered nursing instructor and later serving as director of the registered nursing program and as division director of health sciences programs; in addition to overseeing the eight fields of study within her division, she was active in developing and improving nursing and health career programs throughout the state; and WHEREAS, A valued member of the Waco community, Mrs. Roberson was selected as a Leadership Waco candidate, worked with the senior citizens council, and served on the board of Planned Parenthood; and WHEREAS, Janice Roberson was married in 1963 to David Edward Roberson, and the couple rejoiced as their family grew to include a son, daughter-in-law, and grandson; and WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, engaged in her community, and committed to advancing health careers education in the Lone Star State, Mrs. Roberson aided and enriched the lives of countless individuals over the years, and her memory will be forever cherished by those who were blessed to share her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Janice Roberson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, David E. Roberson, Sr.; to her son, David E. Roberson, Jr., and his wife, Kristen; to her grandson, David E. Roberson III; to her sister, Carolyn Opfer; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family, and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Janice Roberson.
