R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On March 1, 2003, educator and community leader Artie Lee Foxx of San Antonio is being inducted into the Counting My Blessings Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the citizens of San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Foxx began her successful career as a teacher in Kenedy in 1932; she went on to educate and inspire countless students in the communities of Kingsville, Boerne, and San Antonio until retiring in 1976, and in retirement she has volunteered as a mentor and classroom reader; and WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her professional and civic endeavors, she has worked toward the betterment of the Lone Star State throughout her lifetime; among the many groups that have benefited from her involvement are the Texas Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers Board, the National Education Association, the NAACP Board, and the San Antonio Council Board; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Foxx has also given generously of her time, resources, and expertise to promote education and achievement among young women; a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's San Antonio Alumnae Chapter, she has held every office in that group, including that of president, and was a co-organizer of San Antonio's first citywide undergraduate chapter, Zeta Upsilon, in 1969; the 1991 Delta Woman of the Year, Mrs. Foxx was further honored by the organization with the creation of a scholarship fund in her name, and she is also recognized in the community for her work in behalf of the YWCA Board, Campfire Girls, and the Alamo Chapter of the American Association of University Women; and WHEREAS, A devoted member of the community of faith at Mt. Zion First Baptist Church, where she has served on the senior usher board and the hospitality committee, Mrs. Foxx is a much-loved community leader whose devotion to education and volunteerism has long proven that one committed individual truly can make a positive difference in the world around her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature heartily congratulate Artie Lee Foxx on being named to the 2003 Counting My Blessings Hall of Fame and extend to her best wishes for continued success with all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Foxx as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
