H.R. No. 282


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jerry M. Wood retired as assistant director of Tarrant County Juvenile Services (TCJS) on February 14, 2003, after 38 years of outstanding service to his community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wood joined the staff of TCJS on February 15, 1965, as a juvenile probation officer; he was named assistant director in 1977 and demonstrated his expertise in juvenile department procedures, detention practices, and law in that role for more than 25 years; and WHEREAS, This noteworthy gentleman holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University; in addition, he earned a master's degree in public administration from Texas Christian University in 1974; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wood's positive influence extends beyond his longtime efforts with TCJS; he is a member of the Fort Worth Teen Court board of directors, the Citizens Crime Commission of Tarrant County, and the Texas Youth Development, Inc., board of directors; he also is past president of the Fort Worth Girls' Club board of directors and a dedicated supporter of Bridge Emergency Youth Services and the Fort Worth Independent School District's after-school programs; and WHEREAS, He is an adjunct professor at Texas Wesleyan University and a guest lecturer at the Fort Worth Police Academy, and he is a member of advisory boards for the Texas Youth Commission and the Tarrant County Junior College Criminal Justice program; and WHEREAS, For 38 years, Jerry M. Wood has devoted himself to helping the youth of Tarrant County, and it is indeed a privilege to join in honoring this remarkable man as he celebrates his retirement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Jerry M. Wood for his longtime service to Tarrant County and pay tribute to him on the occasion of his retirement as assistant director of Tarrant County Juvenile Services; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Wood as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
