R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Over their long and admirable history, the state's
credit unions have provided their members with an array of
much-needed financial services; and
WHEREAS, The first credit union was founded in 1848, with the
goal of easing the distress of farmers during a time of famine;
operating with an underlying philosophy that members should pool
their resources for mutual benefit and individual flexibility, the
world's credit unions can now boast more than 100 million members,
including 6.5 million Texans; and
WHEREAS, Committed to customer satisfaction and solid
financial stewardship, Texas credit unions strive to meet their
members' needs by offering such services as checking, savings,
IRAs, money market accounts, a variety of loan options, and the many
modern conveniences necessary to handle money matters in an
expeditious manner; and
WHEREAS, Credit unions enable many Texans to more
successfully manage their finances, playing a vital role in
creating a brighter future for our citizenry, and it is indeed
appropriate that these institutions receive special legislative
recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend all those associated with Texas credit
unions for their significant contributions to the economy of the
Lone Star State.
