H.R. No. 296
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On February 27, 2003, many fine residents of Hood
County are gathering in Austin to celebrate Hood County Day at the
State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1866, Hood County is named for Texas
patriot John Bell Hood, who served as a lieutenant general in the
Confederate Army; once heavily reliant on agribusiness, the
county's economy in recent times has diversified to also include
energy production and tourism; and
WHEREAS, Granbury, the county seat, was founded in 1854, and
its town square has been placed in the National Register of Historic
Places; contributing to the area's historical significance and
charm are the Hood County Courthouse, the Granbury Opera House, and
the town's historic homes, such as the Dabney House, the Captain's
House, the Iron Horse Inn, the Nutt House, and the Pearl Street Inn;
and
WHEREAS, Other noteworthy attractions in Hood County include
the Acton State Historical Park, where the grave of Elizabeth
Crockett, wife of Davy Crockett, can be found, the Hood County
Museum, the Granbury Rose, an authentic sternwheeler, and the
Hollywood Movie Museum and Antique Mall; and
WHEREAS, This geographically diverse region includes the
Paluxy and Brazos rivers as well as Lake Granbury, which offer ample
opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, and a wide range of
other outdoor activities; and
WHEREAS, The people of Hood County can take great pride in the
rich history of their area, as they look forward to the promising
future of the region, and they deserve recognition for their
notable contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature recognize February 27, 2003, as Hood County Day and
extend to the Hood County residents visiting Austin sincere best
wishes for a memorable day at the State Capitol.
