H.R. No. 297
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Cisco lost a distinguished civic
leader and valued friend with the untimely passing of John Wesley
Clinton, Sr., on December 7, 2002; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Clinton was born on January 12,
1943, in Monahans and grew up in Abilene with his mother and
brothers; he left school at the age of 15 to help support his
family, but this determined gentleman later earned his GED and
attended college; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, Mayor Clinton moved to the community he
would make his home, accepting the pastorate at the Evangelical
Methodist Church of Cisco; in addition, he served as president of
the Cisco Ministerial Association, where he spent much time aiding
people in need; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Clinton was chaplain for the Eastland County
Police Department and the Eastland County Sheriff's Office; he was
also the owner of two businesses, Clinton Hearing Center and Songs
and Psalms Bookstore; and
WHEREAS, Despite his demanding professional life, this
esteemed gentleman always made time in his busy schedule to help his
community; elected to a three-year term in 2001, Mayor Clinton was a
devoted advocate of Cisco and worked toward the beautification,
growth, and economic development of the city; and
WHEREAS, He was a beloved figure in his town where, in
addition to his many other responsibilities, he served as the
public address announcer for the Cisco Loboes football team; he was
a member of the Cisco Chamber of Commerce and attended River of Life
Church in Eastland; and
WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life, John Clinton set an
inspiring example of leadership and commitment to others; though he
will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him, his
memory will long endure through the lasting legacy of love and
achievement that he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of John Wesley Clinton, Sr., and
extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Evelyn Clinton;
to his son, John Clinton, Jr.; to his daughters, Stephanie Clinton
and Kimberly Clinton; to his brothers, Ed Clinton, Jr., and A. J.
Clinton; to his grandchildren; and to all of his relatives and many
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
Wesley Clinton, Sr.
