R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, It is a distinct pleasure to recognize February 27, 2003, as Bellville Heritage Gathering and Austin County Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The central site of Stephen F. Austin's settlement in 1823, the area now known as Austin County became one of Texas' first counties in 1837; since that time, Austin County has been home to many other firsts in Texas, including the first newspaper, published book, postal system, organized police force, flag, and Sunday school; and WHEREAS, Austin County is home to Stephen F. Austin State Park as well as numerous interesting historical markers; the county encompasses such noteworthy towns as Sealy, Cat Spring, New Ulm, Industry, Wallis, and Bellville; and WHEREAS, On May 3, 2003, the Bellville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Bellville Heritage Gathering; this notable one-day festival features a host of cowboy events and Texas crafts and cooking and showcases the arts, literature, and traditions of the Lone Star State in order to promote a better understanding of and appreciation for Texas history and culture; and WHEREAS, It is appropriate to take this opportunity to welcome the delegation from Austin County and commend all those responsible for the Bellville Heritage Gathering for celebrating the heritage that belongs to each Texan and sharing that legacy with others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2003, as Bellville Heritage Gathering and Austin County Day and extend to each participant sincere best wishes for a joyous and rewarding day at the State Capitol.
