R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ruth Marion Livingston of Austin has attained the
highest honor in the Girl Scouts of America, the Gold Award; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Livingston was born in Austin on July 26, 1988,
to Kirk and Janis Livingston; she attended Cedar Creek Elementary
School and Hill Country Middle School and is currently a freshman at
Westlake High School, where she is a member of the women's lacrosse
team; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Livingston has held various leadership roles in
the Lone Star Girl Scouts over the past eight years, including troop
scribe and patrol leader, and has volunteered in the scout shop;
this notable young woman holds the Junior, Cadette, and Senior
leadership awards, the Four Signs of Junior Achievement, and the
Cadette Silver Award; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Livingston contributes to her community by
volunteering at the Austin Nature Center, the humane society, the
food bank, and her church; she has earned the community service
scouting bars for Cadette Scouts and Senior Scouts; and
WHEREAS, The Gold Award Project executed by this determined
young lady involved planning, designing, and creating room signs
for new troop houses at Camp Texlake; she will receive her award in
April 2003 at a formal ceremony held for all Lone Star Girl Scout
Gold Award recipients; and
WHEREAS, It is a special achievement to earn the Girl Scout
Gold Award, as it is granted only to an average of 10 girls in
Central Texas annually, and Ms. Livingston is truly worthy of
special praise for this considerable accomplishment; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Ruth Marion Livingston for her
dedication to scouting and achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Livingston as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
