R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Transportation investment to ensure mobility throughout Texas is essential to maintaining the economic vitality of the Lone Star State and the quality of life of Texans; and WHEREAS, Reports indicate that the current level of funding supports only about a third of the identified transportation project needs in Texas; and WHEREAS, In its 2002 urban mobility report, the Texas Transportation Institute cites data illustrating alarming increases in congestion, delay, and costs associated with traveling in Texas' major urban areas; and WHEREAS, Highway safety, connectivity, and system reliability are issues important to citizens throughout Texas, and concerned citizens have expressed a desire to designate a single day during this session for focus on the importance of transportation and mobility in Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2003, as Texas Transportation Day at the State Capitol and welcome those individuals who have traveled to Austin to take part in this daylong event.
