R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, The State of Texas has been home to many music stars, 
and Lee Ann Womack from Jacksonville is a shining light in this 
truly notable array; and
	WHEREAS, Country Music Association's 2001 Female Vocalist of 
the Year, Ms. Womack grew up listening to the Grand Ole Opry and 
helping her father select music at a local country music radio 
station; after graduating from high school in Jacksonville, she 
studied music at South Plains Junior College and then attended 
Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee; and
	WHEREAS, She got a job in 1995 as a songwriter for Sony/Tree 
Publishing, and in 1996, Decca Records signed her as a solo artist; 
the following year she released her self-titled album, which 
featured her first number one single, "The Fool," and went 
platinum; and
	WHEREAS, In 2000, Ms. Womack released I Hope You Dance to 
worldwide critical acclaim, and she received invitations to sing at 
the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, the White House, and the Orange 
Bowl; the album's title track won Academy of Country Music awards 
for Event Record of the Year, Single Record of the Year, and Song of 
the Year in 2001, and  the album's hit song, "Does My Ring Burn Your 
Finger," was named 2001 Song of the Year by USA Today; and
	WHEREAS, The mother of two daughters, Ms. Womack never loses 
sight of the importance of her family or her values of fairness and 
compassion; she has touched the hearts of millions of people across 
the globe with her words and her voice, and she is a great source of 
pride to all her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2003, as Lee Ann Womack Day 
at the State Capitol; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Womack as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
