R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Founded in 1990, Brighter Tomorrows was established to provide a safe, empowering environment for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and to help them in breaking the often cyclical pattern of abuse; and WHEREAS, The first Brighter Tomorrows facility was located in Grand Prairie, and over the years the organization has expanded to include shelters in DeSoto and Irving, as well as a Women's Resource Center in Cedar Hill; and WHEREAS, These valuable facilities offer not only emergency refuge from abuse, but also crisis counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, and hospital and court accompaniment; in addition, local residents can benefit from the organization's free parenting classes, community education presentations, professional training, and a 24-hour crisis hotline; and WHEREAS, Currently under the leadership of Jana Barker, a founder and the organization's executive director since 1992, Brighter Tomorrows has provided individuals with the support, education, and services essential for overcoming domestic violence and sexual assault, and it is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Jana Barker and all those associated with Brighter Tomorrows for their dedication and contributions to the community and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for this organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
