R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2002 marked the 75th anniversary of the
Texas Veterans Commission; and
WHEREAS, Originally called the State Veterans Service
Office, this beneficial organization was established in 1927; since
that time, the commission has effectively provided claims
assistance and counseling services, helping to ensure that veterans
and their families receive all the federal and state benefits to
which they are entitled; and
WHEREAS, The commission has made available a comprehensive
and well–regarded veterans service officer training program; it has
also worked diligently with other veterans organizations and the
state legislature to improve services for the state's nearly two
million veterans; and
WHEREAS, Texas veterans currently benefit from the skilled
leadership of the commission's executive director, James Nier, its
chairman, James Duncan, and its commissioners, Leonardo Barraza,
John Brieden III, James Adams, Brigadier General Sue Turner, and
Alexander Vernon; and
WHEREAS, For more than three-quarters of a century, the Texas
Veterans Commission has provided assistance to our veterans, and
the dedicated efforts of its commissioners and staff have
positively impacted the lives of countless Texans; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Veterans Commission for more
than 75 years of outstanding service in behalf of Texas veterans and
their families; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Texas Veterans Commission as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
