R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
welcome the distinguished men and women of the nursing profession
who are here today in Austin to celebrate March 4 and 5, 2003, as
Nurse Days at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, The 130,000 registered nurses and 70,000 licensed
vocational nurses who provide care to Texans every day in hospitals
and nursing homes and through home health agencies play an
indispensable role in the quality of health care received in this
state; and
WHEREAS, Today, the need for quality nursing is greater than
ever before due to the aging of our population, the expansion of
life-sustaining technology, and the rapid growth of home health
care and other community-based services; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, this legislative body took steps to address
the Lone Star State's critical shortage of nurses by supporting
increased enrollment in Texas nursing schools; and
WHEREAS, The care and support nursing professionals provide
to patients is beyond price, and these dedicated professionals are
indeed deserving of our respect and admiration; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 4 and 5, 2003, as Nurse Days at
the State Capitol and extend warm best wishes for a memorable visit
to these dedicated men and women.
