R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bernyce Crownover, a longtime Ellis County
resident, has been named the 2002 Waxahachie Citizen of the Year,
and this award is a fitting tribute to a Texan who over the years has
made countless contributions to many worthy local civic, business,
and charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Crownover has generously contributed to
planning, organizing, and coordinating such local events as the
Crape Myrtle Festival, Cotton Patch Chili Cookoff, Candlelight
Christmas Home Tour, Gingerbread Trail and Historic Home Tour, and
Bob Phillips Texas Country Reporter Festival; in addition, she has
been a valued member of the Ellis County Business Women's Board who
has long demonstrated great interest in helping Texas firms, as
evidenced through her work with the Business Expo and the
Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, on which she served as chair in
1998; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic woman is also a tireless advocate for
our state's most vulnerable citizens, and her work in behalf of
abused and neglected children has been vital to associations that
include the Gingerbread House, Ellis County's children's advocacy
center, and the Texas Council of Child Welfare Board; her many
accomplishments have been recognized throughout the Ellis County
community, which last year proclaimed February 11 to be Bernyce
Crownover Day, and she was honored as the Volunteer of the Year in
2000 and the First Lady of Waxahachie in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of her life, this exemplary
individual has dedicated herself to the betterment of her community
and state, and it is through efforts such as hers that Waxahachie
retains the high quality of life its residents enjoy today; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Bernyce Crownover on being named
the 2002 Waxahachie Citizen of the Year and extend to her warmest
best wishes for continued happiness and success in her future
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Crownover as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
