R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Kerrville lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and community leader with the passing of Roland Philip "Jack" Fournier on October 24, 2000, at the age of 96; and WHEREAS, A native of Ware, Massachusetts, Mr. Fournier was born on November 23, 1903; he married the former Dorothy Perkins Doran on February 11, 1968, and the couple enjoyed a happy and rewarding marriage; and WHEREAS, After attending Johns Hopkins University, he embarked on a career with the United States Army in 1919, serving in various posts throughout the United States and around the world; his last assignment was at Army Chemical Center in Maryland, where he served as an executive officer until his retirement in 1962; during his time in the military, this retired colonel garnered a host of accolades, including the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster; and WHEREAS, Known throughout the community as "Mr. Kerrville," Mr. Fournier gave generously of his time and talents in support of numerous area organizations; among those who benefited from his membership were the Havre de Grace Maryland Lodge of Elks, No. 1564, Kerrville Elks Lodge No. 2081, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Inc., Knights of Columbus No. 1492, Kerrville Kiwanis Club, Chemical Corps Association, Hill Country Preservation Society, Inc., and the Cowboy Artists of America Museum; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman was also a valued member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church and the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce and was a recipient of the Presidential Citation in 1987; in addition, the Ambassador of the Year Award was changed to the Jack Fournier Ambassador of the Year Award in his honor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fournier was a man of integrity, accomplishment, and dedication, and while he has been greatly missed, his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Roland Philip "Jack" Fournier and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Dorothy; to his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Mike Hickey; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roland P. "Jack" Fournier.
