H.R. No. 403


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In July of 2002, Abilene's Chris Kyker was elected by the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) to be Speaker during the 9th Session of the legislature; and WHEREAS, She recently directed, this past September 16-20, 2002, the 116 elected representatives from districts within the 28 area agencies on aging in Texas to present the Governor, the Texas Legislature, and the Texas Department on Aging the TSHL's 9th Session Report of its legislative priorities and resolutions; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Kyker has a distinguished career of service, including her recent appointment to the Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness, and was the founding executive director of the Texas Department on Aging, the founding director of the Area Agency on Aging, and the founding president and chief executive officer of Disability Resources, Inc.; and WHEREAS, She has had the support of a superb family in which her late husband, Dr. Rex Kyker, teamed up with Chris in their work to support the aging; she also is the proud mother of five talented children and the grandmother of seven grandchildren, and she has two great-grandchildren--all of whom reside in Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby honor Chris Kyker for her contributions and continuing service as Speaker of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Kyker as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
