R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The death of Berney Seal, one of Corpus Christi's most prominent civic leaders, on October 7, 2002, at the age of 74, brought a profoundly felt loss to the many friends, relatives, and other admirers of this esteemed Texan; and WHEREAS, Mr. Seal, who served this nation in both World War II and the Korean War, earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Alabama in 1953; nine years later, he moved to Corpus Christi, where he built a thriving real estate firm, Berney Seal Co., Realtors, became an important and influential member of the local business community, and won election in 1980 to serve as president of the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors; and WHEREAS, This energetic and articulate businessman was also recognized as one of Corpus Christi's leading radio talk show hosts; he started his broadcasting career at KEYS-AM shortly after arriving in Texas, hosted shows on KCCT-AM and KTKY-FM, and was a contributing commentator for KDF-TV's "Second Opinion"; and WHEREAS, An ardent and tireless promoter of his adopted hometown, he gave generously of his time to serve on the board of directors of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau; this organization greatly benefitted from Mr. Seal's vision, enthusiasm, and commitment to increasing tourism and to making the city a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Berney Seal will not soon forget the warmth, humor, and dedication he brought to each facet of his life, and, although his presence is gone from us now, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Berney Seal and extend deepest sympathy to his wife, Gail Seal, and to his many other friends and relatives; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Berney Seal.
