R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than half a century, Truman O'Kelly "Kelly"
Hildebrand of Kerrville has been a much-loved educator, changing
the lives of many thousands of Texans, and his retirement from
Schreiner University marks the end of an era for an important Lone
Star institution of higher learning; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr.
Hildebrand joined the staff of Schreiner Institute in 1948, where
he impressed students and colleagues alike with his exceptional
talents as a teacher and mathematician; the Longhorn alumnus earned
his master's degree in 1955, and in 1998 his outstanding
achievements were recognized with the award of an honorary
doctorate of humane letters; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his 55-year career, Mr.
Hildebrand helped transform the Schreiner Institute in Kerrville
from a small rural college to a four-year, baccalaureate-granting
university; his vision and dedication proved invaluable to each of
the school's five presidents, and his legacy as an educator will
live on for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature heartily congratulate Truman O'Kelly Hildebrand on the
occasion of his retirement and extend to him warmest best wishes for
continued happiness and success in his future endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Hildebrand as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
