H.R. No. 430
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Dixie E. McConnell of Kerrville on
July 12, 2002, at the age of 78, deeply saddened the family and
friends of this esteemed lady; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 9, 1923, in San Antonio, Ms.
McConnell graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton and
taught school for more than 30 years, mostly in Edinburg; and
WHEREAS, After retirement, Ms. McConnell continued making
contributions to her profession through the Hill Country Retired
Teachers Association; she served as its program chairman and as a
delegate to several statewide conventions; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McConnell was a 20-year resident of Kerr County;
she was active in the Republican Party for two decades,
participated in the Habitat for Humanity-Kerr County program, and
belonged to the Ingram Garden Club; and
WHEREAS, A member of Hunt United Methodist Church, Ms.
McConnell was involved in Church Women United, and the positive
influence she had on the lives of her fellow citizens cannot be
measured; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McConnell will be remembered for the difference
she made in the world as an educator, an activist, and a friend;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dixie E. McConnell and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
daughters, Karen "Kam" McFaul and Kathleen "Kem" McConnell; to her
sisters, Jan Cannon and Carol Pope; to her nieces and nephews; and
to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dixie E.
McConnell.
