R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Victor Horn and Lester Van Pelt, Jr., of the Midland Downtown Lions Club, have each achieved 50 years of perfect attendance at Lions Club meetings, and this record speaks volumes about the unshakeable dedication these esteemed gentlemen have brought to a lifetime of constructive endeavors; and WHEREAS, Mr. Horn joined the Midland club in 1948 and has maintained a perfect attendance record since 1952; actively involved in his community, he works with children with special needs and with the sight-conservation programs of the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Midland, one of 10 such centers sponsored by the Lions Club around the world; and WHEREAS, A Midland Downtown Lion since 1959, Mr. Van Pelt transferred his membership there from the Lions Club in Victoria, which he joined in 1950; formerly chairman of the Abell-Hanger Foundation, he has held various leadership positions in the Midland club and given able support over the years to the group's charitable undertakings; and WHEREAS, In recognition of their stellar attendance records, Mr. Horn and Mr. Van Pelt were honored with plaques and a standing ovation at their club's meeting on November 6, 2002; and WHEREAS, Victor Horn and Lester Van Pelt, Jr., epitomize the ideals that stand at the heart of the Lions Club mission, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring them for their untiring commitment to public service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Victor Horn and Lester Van Pelt, Jr., for their 50 years of perfect attendance at Lions Club meetings and extend to them deep appreciation for their generous good works over the past half century; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Horn and Mr. Van Pelt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
