R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary is truly cause for
celebration, and on November 30, 2002, George and Jean Friday of
Midland gathered with friends and family to commemorate this joyous
occasion in their marriage; and
WHEREAS, Melba Jean Lucas first met George Friday at Calvary
Baptist Church and the happy couple were married on December 6,
1952; their union has been blessed with four children, Dan Friday,
Randy Friday, Lance Friday, and Kayla Hefner, and the Fridays have
also seen their family grow to include eight cherished
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Friday retired from the Midland Fire Department
in 1981, later becoming a building inspector for the City of Midland
before retiring again in 1994; Mrs. Friday has had a challenging
career as well, having worked for Ashland Oil, the Midland
Reporter-Telegram, and KJBC radio station; and
WHEREAS, Active in their children's lives, the Fridays served
as PTA officers at several schools and volunteered with the Midland
Junior Baseball Association and the Midland High School Band
Boosters Club; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Friday has been active as a scoutmaster with the
Buffalo Trails Council and is a member of the Order of the Arrow,
while Mrs. Friday has served as an election judge for more than 40
years and is Past Noble Grand of the Midland Rebekah Lodge No. 91;
and
WHEREAS, After half a century of companionship, Mr. and
Mrs. Friday still cherish their time spent together and enjoy
attending Alamo Heights Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable marriage has produced a fine family
and many joyous memories, and the love Mr. and Mrs. Friday continue
to share remains an inspiration to all who know them; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate George and Jean Friday on their
golden wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Friday as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
