H.R. No. 484
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On March 13, 2003, the El Paso Commission for Women
is inducting the Honorable Patricia A. Macias into its Hall of Fame;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1985, the commission is composed of
El Paso citizens who are committed to the pursuit of equal rights
and responsibilities for all women; inductees to the organization's
Hall of Fame are recognized in one of five categories, including
arts, civic leadership, education, professional, and public
service; and
WHEREAS, Selected for the public service category, Judge
Macias is credited with greatly improving the lives of countless
Texas youth by establishing El Paso's Children's Court, a program
that has been hailed as a model for children's courts throughout the
nation; and
WHEREAS, Only four years after the court's 1995 inception, El
Paso's adoption rate for foster children increased by 300 percent,
and this dramatic success is due, in large part, to the vision and
diligence of Judge Macias; and
WHEREAS, Through various public and private collaborations
and countless hours spent educating the community on the effects of
child abuse and neglect, Judge Macias has built a brighter and more
promising future for the children of El Paso, and her efforts have
won the respect and admiration of people throughout the state and
nation; and
WHEREAS, The success of the State of Texas, the strength of
our communities, and the overall vitality of American society
depend on the dedication of people like Patricia Macias, who use
their considerable talents and resources to serve others, and it is
a privilege to join in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Patricia Macias on her induction
into the El Paso Commission for Women's Hall of Fame and extend to
her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Judge Macias as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
