R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Alfredo and Lucitelma Martinez have long contributed to the betterment of their Del Rio community, and they are most deserving of special legislative recognition; and WHEREAS, The couple established the Del Rio Food and Meat Market in May 1973 at 505 Dignowity, in the city's Chihuahua neighborhood; owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Martinez and staffed by the couple's siblings and their spouses, the family business came to be known as a place to go for not only quality food and courteous service, but also friendship and a kind word; and WHEREAS, In addition to local shoppers, the store drew loyal customers from out of town and even out of county because of its products and the caring attitude of the Martinez family; over the course of nearly three decades of operating their successful business, this remarkable couple worked long hours, never took time off for a vacation, and closed only on Christmas Day and part of Christmas Eve; their diligence provided highly prized college educations for both of their children; and WHEREAS, When it was destroyed by a fire in 1978, the building was rebuilt and expanded with the generous help of customers and neighbors who had come to be an extended family to Mr. and Mrs. Martinez; later, a second location of the popular business was opened in the city's San Felipe neighborhood, and in 1984 the original location was closed and the family focused on operating the remaining store until it was sold in November 2002; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez have consistently demonstrated the virtues of integrity, hard work, and devotion, and it is truly a privilege to join in paying tribute to these exemplary Texans at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Alfredo and Lucitelma Martinez for their inspiring dedication to their family, their community, and their country and extend to them heartfelt best wishes for continued success and happiness in all their endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
