H.R. No. 489


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of San Antonio lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and community leader with the passing of Henry C. Morales on April 20, 2002, at the age of 71; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Morales was born in Seguin on October 27, 1930, and moved with his family to San Marcos; he graduated from San Marcos High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Southwest Texas State University, where he met his wife, Felicia, when he sang on the radio and she was his accompanist; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman served four years in the United States Army during the 1940s; he was commissioned as an officer in the Army Reserves in 1957, later retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel; and WHEREAS, Long committed to the youth of this state, Mr. Morales began a career in education as a teacher at Cenizo Park Elementary School in Edgewood Independent School District (ISD); over the ensuing years, he built on that experience for his jobs with Southcross Junior High School, the Sheltered Workshop for Retarded Young Adults, the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, and the Bilingual Education Program of South San Antonio ISD; and WHEREAS, From 1970 to 1986, Mr. Morales served as the director of student aid for Trinity University, and through his dedication to the students he won the respect and admiration of all who knew him; following that position, he worked in the Northside ISD for some 15 years before retiring in 2001; and WHEREAS, During his free time, Mr. Morales was an active member of his community, giving generously of his time and talents to a host of noteworthy organizations, including Project STAY, the Minnie Piper Stevens Foundation, the Baumberger Endowment Fund, and the Salvation Army; he also served six years as the treasurer of the Northwest Democrats and was a dedicated member of El Divino Salvador United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Henry Morales was a devoted family man, teacher, and civic leader, and while he is greatly missed, his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Henry C. Morales and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of nearly 47 years, Felicia Castillo Morales; to his sons and their spouses, Dan and Christi Morales, Ron and Kibbie Morales, and Michael and Barbra Morales; to his six grandchildren, Michael Tristan, Kaitlan, Greyden Neal, Shayne Neal, Jonathan Stone, and Jude David; to his sister, Beatrice Sochia; to his nieces, nephews, and cousins; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Henry C.
