R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Tessa Martinez Pollack of San Antonio is most deserving of legislative recognition for her distinguished service as an educator and administrator; and WHEREAS, Appointed president of Our Lady of the Lake University in 2002, Dr. Pollack is the first Hispanic to hold that position; at the time of her selection, she was president of Glendale Community College in Phoenix, Arizona; and WHEREAS, Before her move to Arizona, this esteemed academician served as president of the Medical Center Campus of the Miami-Dade Community College in Florida; during the 1980s, she was employed with San Antonio College as assistant to the president, dean, and program developer; and WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Dr. Pollack graduated from Our Lady of the Lake High School, received an associate's degree from San Antonio College and a master's degree in business and education from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and a doctorate in educational administration from The University of Texas at Austin; she began her career as an educator teaching in San Antonio's Edgewood Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Dr. Pollack has published extensively in her field and worked actively with various educational boards, while also devoting significant time to the communities in which she has lived; the recipient of numerous accolades, she has been identified by Hispanic Business magazine as one of "100 Influentials"; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her stellar 30-year career, Dr. Pollack has demonstrated outstanding scholarship and an exceptional talent for leading highly successful, multicultural institutions, and Our Lady of the Lake is indeed fortunate to have her at its helm; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Tessa Martinez Pollack on her appointment as president of Our Lady of the Lake University, commend her for her deep commitment to education, and extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Pollack as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
