R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Wagoner will retire from his position as
resident agent in charge of the Austin office of the U.S. Secret
Service on March 22, 2003, after having served the citizens of this
nation for more than 20 years with unparalleled integrity and
commitment; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at San
Antonio, Mr. Wagoner began his service to this nation as a member of
the U.S. Army Reserves; on March 21, 1983, he became a special agent
for the U.S. Secret Service and soon thereafter was assigned to the
security detail for presidential candidate Walter Mondale; he later
moved to the Washington Field Office, where he was assigned to the
I.D. squad, and in 1987 he transferred back to security detail work,
this time to serve as a shift agent covering President Ronald
Reagan; in the years that followed, he was a member of the security
teams for Nancy Reagan, Lady Bird Johnson, George Bush, and George
W. Bush; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his exceptional record of
service, this dedicated public servant was promoted to resident
agent in charge of the Austin office, a position he has held with
distinction for the past three years; throughout his exemplary
career, Agent Wagoner has displayed uncommon courage while
protecting our country's elected officials and their families, and
in doing so he has helped to ensure the very stability of our
democratic system of government; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Resident Agent in Charge James
Wagoner on the occasion of his retirement from the U.S. Secret
Service and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued
happiness and success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Agent Wagoner as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
