R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Jay D. Ransom of Atlanta, Texas, on March 10, 2003, at the age of 59, has deeply saddened his family and many friends; and WHEREAS, Born on March 18, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Ransom liked to joke that, though he wasn't a native Texan, he got here as quickly as he could and never left; he was an honors graduate of Atlanta High School and furthered his education at Texarkana College and The University of Texas at Austin, which awarded him his law degree in 1975; and WHEREAS, This patriotic gentleman earned the rank of lieutenant colonel while serving his country as a member of the United States Army from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War; a member of the United States Army Reserves until 1994, he was again called to service in 1991 during Desert Storm; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom operated his own law office in Atlanta and held the post of city judge for many years; he worked for the betterment of his community not only through his profession, but also through his involvement with various civic endeavors; he was a life member of J. E. Manning American Legion Post No. 258 and had been a member of the Atlanta Lions Club since 1975; and WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed gentleman was a former chair of the Cass County Republican Party and scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 47, and he was a faithful congregant of First Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of Jay Ransom will long miss his presence, and he will surely be remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the memory of Jay D. Ransom and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Margaret Thompson Ransom; to his son, Travis Ransom, and his wife, Emily; to his daughter, Jennifer Ransom Rice, and her husband, Chuck; to his grandson, Jay Coyt Ransom; to his mother-in-law, Ledelle Thompson; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jay D.
