R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The tragic death of U.S. Army Sergeant Rodrigo
Gonzalez Garza of San Antonio on February 25, 2003, at the age of
26, has shocked and saddened the citizens of the Lone Star State;
and
WHEREAS, This patriotic young Texan was killed, along with
three of his fellow soldiers, when the Black Hawk helicopter he was
on duty in as crew chief crashed in Kuwait during a nighttime
training exercise; and
WHEREAS, Born in Sabinas Hidalgo, Mexico, Sergeant Gonzalez
moved to San Antonio as a young child, displaying at an early age
the responsibility and loyalty beyond his years that would later
become his hallmarks; he joined the armed forces after his
graduation from Fox Tech High School and, throughout his military
career, he impressed all who knew him as an American of exemplary
integrity, humility, and courage; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
and women whose love of country leads them to military service, yet
the death of this exemplary young man is a reminder that the
preservation of freedom is not without great cost; the passing of
Sergeant Gonzalez is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, and
fellow soldiers, and his sacrifice in service of this country will
not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rodrigo Gonzalez
Garza and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
his parents, Ramiro and Orelia Gonzalez; to his sister and
brother-in-law, Veronica and Rolando Valadez; to his three
brothers, all of whom currently serve in the U.S. military, Ramiro,
Ricardo, and Rolando Gonzalez, and their wives, Ana Cecilia, Lisa,
and Jennifer Gonzalez; to his grandfather, Guadalupe Gonzalez; and
to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
Rodrigo Gonzalez Garza.
