H.R. No. 506
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The United States veterans of the Korean War are
deserving of our utmost respect and should be held in the highest
regard for the sacrifices they made during that terrible struggle
to defend the autonomy of South Korea; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 1.8 million men and women of the United
States armed forces served in the Korean War between its outbreak on
June 25, 1950, and the armistice on November 11, 1953; of those,
36,568 made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, The Veterans Affairs Commission of the City of San
Antonio and the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration
Committee of the U.S. Department of Defense are jointly sponsoring
a ceremony in San Antonio on March 8, 2003, in order to pay homage to
Korean War veterans and their families, as well as to draw public
attention to the immeasurable service rendered by these brave men
and women in defense of freedom; and
WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of the armed forces,
these individuals bore the burden of a punishing war in order to
turn back the massive North Korean invasion, and they most
assuredly merit the gratitude of all Americans for their
unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and the cause of liberty; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the members of the United States armed
forces who served in the Korean War and extend to them its deepest
appreciation for their heroism and sacrifice.
