R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ru-Shan Gao of Houston has proven himself to be an outstanding athlete and competitor and a fine example for all who wish to lead healthy, active, and interesting lives; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gao first joined the Senior Olympics in Houston in 1999 and garnered a gold medal in doubles table tennis; winning other medals in subsequent years, he eagerly looked forward to competing at the 2002 Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah; and WHEREAS, When a technicality made him unable to participate in the table tennis competition, this versatile gentleman entered the contract bridge competition and won, becoming a national bridge gold medalist at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, The mark of a champion is the ability to overcome any obstacle, and Mr. Gao, who is also a champion walker, has demonstrated the determination, skill, and integrity to make him a true winner as well as a source of great pride to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ru-Shan Gao on his competitive achievements and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gao as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
