H.R. No. 527

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Anyone who knows the Honorable Linda Harper-Brown will testify to the fact that this capable and conscientious public servant was not born yesterday, and today, March 20, 2003, we join together in celebration of that fact as we honor her on the joyous occasion of her birthday; and WHEREAS, Though this feisty freshman is currently serving her first session as a member of this chamber, Representative Harper-Brown is not new to the political arena, having cut her teeth, not to mention wasteful spending, as a member of the Irving City Council for more than five years; and WHEREAS, The chief executive officer of H & H Bookkeeping in Irving, Representative Harper-Brown is a person who can readily tell when something adds up, and consequently, when it doesn't, and her expertise not only has led her to be honored by the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce as its Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, but has also compelled this crackerjack hunter to take aim at such vexing issues as crime, education, and transportation during her years as an involved community activist; and WHEREAS, The devoted wife of Bill Brown, she is also a doting mother and grandmother who has rapped more than a few knuckles and knuckleheads in her day in the interest of education as a member of the local school board and the North Texas Association of School Boards, and the young people of her community have further benefited from her interest through the role she played to secure funding for the Irving Schools Foundation and in the development of the Irving Youth Center; and WHEREAS, An active participant in President Ronald Reagan's White House Conference for a Drug Free America and the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee of the National League of Cities, she has also made an impact closer to home through her work as a transportation advocate with the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition and TEX 21, helping to improve highways and reduce traffic; now spending an inordinate amount of time idling behind the wheel of her car in the "Traffic Capital of Central Texas," Representative Harper-Brown should have plenty of time in which to ponder new ways to keep this state moving forward as a member of the House Transportation and Election committees, as well as the Select Committee on State Health Care Expenditures; and WHEREAS, When she isn't at the State Capitol helping to shape public policy, Representative Harper-Brown can often be found, perfectly coiffed and bejeweled, hunting on her deer lease, proving once again her uncanny ability to hit each target that draws her attention, a knack that will undoubtedly serve this state well in the days to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby encourage the Honorable Linda Harper-Brown to hold the line on celebrating her birthday in a manner that is too taxing and extend to her sincere best wishes for nothing but blue skies ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Harper-Brown as a good-natured reminder from her colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives that, like Poison Ivy, this too shall pass.
