H.R. No. 529


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, An 80th wedding anniversary is truly cause for celebration, and on March 17, 2003, M. O. "Mo" and Ada Wells of Scroggins are observing this momentous milestone in their marriage; and WHEREAS, Both natives of Vian, Oklahoma, Mr. Wells and the former Ada McIntyre were born into families that moved to other states and eventually relocated to the Dallas area; the stepmother of Mr. Wells and the father of Miss McIntyre were related, which brought the families together socially; and WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Mr. Wells was working as an elevator operator in the Medical Arts Building, while 14-year-old Miss McIntyre was employed at Titche's Department Store; on March 17, 1923, the young couple, with their parents in attendance, exchanged wedding vows at the Dallas County Courthouse while Mr. Wells was on a 15-minute break; the bride had to quit her job when her employer discovered she was married, and the newlyweds for a time lived on the groom's income of $16 per week; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Wells retired in 1969 after spending most of their careers at Titche's, he in maintenance and she in the monogramming department; after living in Florida for several years, they moved in the mid-1980s to Scroggins, where they continue to live independently; beloved members of their community, the couple are members of the Winnsboro Church of Christ; and WHEREAS, Blessed with a fine family that today spans five generations, Mo and Ada Wells take great pride in their daughter, Marion Stillwell, and her husband, Bob, and their sons, Clarence Ray Wells, and his wife, Dorothy, and Richard Wells and his wife, Patsy; they enjoy the love and affection of their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and delight their family and many friends with their wit and cheerful dispositions; and WHEREAS, For eight decades, Mr. and Mrs. Wells have shared many happy times and cherished memories; their commitment to each other serves as an inspiration to their loved ones, and it is indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate M. O. "Mo" and Ada Wells on the occasion of their 80th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Wells as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
