R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Palmer lost a distinguished leader
and valued friend with the passing of former mayor Charles G. Davis
on February 14, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born to proud parents Emma and Ed
Guerney Davis in Ferris, where he spent much of his childhood, and
went on to pursue higher education at Texas A&M University and
Trinity University; and
WHEREAS, He married Ruth Barron and the couple were blessed
with two sons and shared a happy and fulfilling union until her
passing; he was fortunate to find true love a second time when he
met Jacqueline Sue Davis, who became his wife; and
WHEREAS, This notable civic leader served as mayor, school
board trustee, and city councilman; he played an active role in
several local businesses such as Barron & Davis Insurance, American
Health & Accident Insurance, Barron & Davis Funeral Home, and Ellis
County Cotton Gin Company; and
WHEREAS, Duly recognized for his efforts, he was once named
Texas Ginner of the Year and received an Eligere Award, an honor
bestowed on him by the local high school; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis not only lived life, but embraced it to the
fullest; an admired businessman and civic leader, he enriched the
lives of countless individuals, and his spirit will undoubtedly
live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he so deeply
affected; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of Charles G. Davis and extend
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jacqueline Sue
Davis; to his son, Edwin Wayne Davis; to his daughter-in-law, Cathy
Davis; to his grandchildren, Courtney, Lance, Kelly, and Laurie
Davis; and to his other relatives and many close friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles G.
Davis.
