R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On June 7, 2002, residents of San Antonio lost a beloved neighbor, businessman, and friend with the passing of Henry R. Gonzales, Sr., at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Gonzales was born in San Antonio on March 14, 1922; he was married to Eloise P. Gonzales for 40 years, and the couple enjoyed a rich and rewarding relationship; and WHEREAS, Together with his wife, this esteemed gentleman owned and operated Bill's Pawn and Jewelry for more than 42 years; the shop was one of the first 10 privately owned pawn shops in the city, and it was named Texas Pawn Shop of the Year for 1993 by the Texas Pawn Brokers Association for excellence in service and exemplary integrity in business; and WHEREAS, In addition to his career, Mr. Gonzales was an active member of his community, giving generously of his time and talents to a host of worthwhile organizations; he was a member of the Sembradores de Amistad, The Optimist Club, The St. Matthew's Bilingual Choir, and the Guadalupanas at St. Matthew's; and WHEREAS, Henry R. Gonzales was a man of dedication and wisdom, and while he is greatly missed, his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Henry R. Gonzales and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Eloise P. Gonzales; to his brother, Arthur Gonzales; to his sisters, Maruca Sekorski, Beatriz Mendoza, Lucille Garcia, Claudine Albidress, and Lydia Valdez; to his son, Henry Gonzales, Jr., and his wife, Nicky; to his daughter, Shirley Gonzales Flores and her husband, Ramon; to his grandchildren, Henry R. Gonzales III and Diego N. Gonzales; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Henry R.
