H.R. No. 552
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Shelton Padgett of San Antonio was recently elected
chairman of VIA Metropolitan Transit, and this noteworthy occasion
provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on Mr. Padgett's numerous
accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan graduated from Southwest Texas
State University (SWT) in 1970 and went on to earn a degree from St.
Mary's University law school; he has built a successful legal
career with the San Antonio firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer &
Feld, LLP, where he is the head of the labor and employment law
practice group; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Padgett has given generously of his time and
resources in support of his alma mater by serving as president of
the SWT Alumni Association in 1977-78 and by establishing the
organization's permanent fund; in addition, he has been a trustee
of the school's development foundation since 1979, and he recently
provided the SWT political science department computer lab with
$25,000 to support technological training for legal studies and
political science students; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Padgett has demonstrated a deeply rooted
commitment to serving others through both his professional and
civic activities, and it is a pleasure to honor him on his recent
achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Shelton Padgett on his election as
chairman of VIA Metropolitan Transit and honor him for his
outstanding civic contributions; and, be it further
RESOLVED, Than an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Padgett as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
