R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Richard A. Wiley retired from his position as a
detective with the Missouri City Police Department on April 30,
2002, bringing to a close an exemplary career in law enforcement
that spanned more than a quarter-century; and
WHEREAS, After serving with the sheriff's office in McLennan
and Fort Bend counties, this noteworthy public servant joined the
Missouri City Police Department in 1981 as an officer in the patrol
division and became a field training officer the following year;
and
WHEREAS, In 1986, he was promoted to the rank of detective,
and his work in that capacity included serving as the department's
gang liaison; Detective Wiley gained further advancement in 2001
when he became acting detective sergeant; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his significant contributions to
public safety, he received numerous letters of commendation over
the course of his career, and he was named 100 Club Officer of the
Year in 1990; and
WHEREAS, For 27 years Richard Wiley fulfilled the duties of
his office in a manner consistent with the highest ideals of the law
enforcement profession, and he may reflect with pride on the
significant role he played in protecting the lives and property of
his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Richard A. Wiley on his outstanding
career with the Missouri City Police Department and extend to him
best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Wiley as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
