R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Waco's Gamma Upsilon chapter of the National
Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa is holding its Spring/Black History
Scholarship Banquet, and this occasion provides a fitting
opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of this outstanding
organization; and
WHEREAS, The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, formed in 1923, is a professional organization of
teachers dedicated to the task of educating the youth of America and
equipping students with skills to successfully overcome problems;
the group, which currently has 134 chapters and more than 4,000
members, meets the needs of African-American educators by
stimulating professional growth among teachers and promoting the
highest ideals of the teaching profession; and
WHEREAS, Chartered in 1975, the Gamma Upsilon chapter
actively participates at the local, regional, and national levels
of Phi Delta Kappa, working to carry out the aims of the sorority
and incorporating the five-point program of the sorority; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi
Delta Kappa has remained committed to the future of education and
the development and encouragement of students and educators alike,
and it is a great pleasure to honor all those associated with this
notable group at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the Gamma Upsilon chapter of the
National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa on the occasion of the
Spring/Black History Scholarship Banquet and extend to every member
sincere best wishes for success in the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
