R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For nearly 30 years, the Houston Heights Tower has been dedicated to preserving personal independence and providing fellowship opportunities for area senior citizens; and WHEREAS, A vision born of the Reverend Jim Smith, the facility was a labor of love, built through the combined efforts of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Heights Presbyterian Church, Heights Christian Church, and All Saints Catholic Church; Heights Tower filled a void in the central Houston area, providing a home for self-reliant seniors who no longer wished to be burdened with the upkeep of a house and yard; and WHEREAS, The groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 13, 1973; built within proximity of a hospital, grocery store, pharmacy, beauty salon, and park, Houston Heights Tower is well suited to meeting the needs of its residents; and WHEREAS, This outstanding residential facility has been a haven for area senior citizens, offering the promise of enjoyable recreational activities, affordable housing, and the companionship of good friends who share the desire to lead active lives; Houston Heights Tower has blessed the lives of many by preserving the dignity of its residents, serving as an island of support, encouragement, and security to revered members of society who have earned the privilege that should accompany a long and meaningful life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the Houston Heights Tower on the 30th anniversary of its groundbreaking ceremony and extend sincere best wishes to all its residents and staff.
