R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, San Antonio's Information Technology and Security
Academy offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to
earn college credit while gaining valuable experience in the
information technology and network security industries; and
WHEREAS, A joint venture sponsored by the San Antonio
Technology Accelerator Initiative, The University of Texas at San
Antonio Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security, the City
of San Antonio, the Alamo Community College District, and local
industry partners, the academy functions in collaboration with the
18 independent school districts in the Bexar County area; and
WHEREAS, Some 80 high school juniors began the program in
August 2002, and the next class of students is currently being
recruited for the 2003 school year; in addition to providing a
vibrant environment in which high school students can learn and
grow, the free program includes an opportunity for students to
participate in paid summer internships between their junior and
senior years of high school; and
WHEREAS, Gaining experience and expertise in this exciting
and diverse field will undoubtedly benefit the young people who
attend the Information Technology and Security Academy, and all
those who have contributed to the success of this noteworthy
program are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to
excellence in this endeavor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize San Antonio's Information Technology
and Security Academy and extend best wishes for continued success
to the many individuals and organizations involved in this unique
and wonderful program.
